Burke CAA Preseason Player of the Year, Team Ranked 17 in Nation

Colin Burke ’19 has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Player of the Year to headline a quartet of Fairfield men’s lacrosse student-athletes recognized with Preseason All-CAA distinctions. In addition, the Stags were tabbed for second in the CAA Predicted Order of Finish, as voted upon by the league’s six head coaches.

Joining Burke on the Preseason All-CAA Team are Tyler Behring ’17 and Andrew Eidenshink ’17. Will Fox ’18 rounded out the honorees as a Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention.

“All of the CAA Lacrosse programs are led by very competitive coaches and players that are committed to winning; I am happy for our players to receive some recognition within a conference that I believe to be among the best in the nation,” said Head Coach Andy Copelan. “We are all excited that the season is almost upon us.”

As a team, the Stags were ranked second in the CAA Predicted Order of Finish with 21 total points and one first-place votes. The remaining first-place tallies went to two-time defending champion Towson, which topped the poll with 25 points. Hofstra, Drexel, Delaware and Massachusetts rounded out the preseason ledger.

Nationally, the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook picked the Stags at No. 17 in its preseason rankings, while the USILA Preseason Coaches’ Poll slotted them at No. 20 in the nation. Fairfield is coming off of a 9-8 season – its fifth straight winning campaign – that culminated with the team’s first-ever trip to the CAA Championship Game. The Stags, who return 30 student-athletes from last spring’s club – are one of five teams in the nation to have won three consecutive conference regular season titles.
