Glee Club Presents Annual Holiday Concert, Dec. 4th and 5th

The Fairfield University Glee Club will present its annual holiday concert, A Christmas Flourish, Music for Choir and Brass, on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5.

The concert will include holiday favorites such as, “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” from Christmas Cantata and more.

“Our solo repertoire centers around the holiday season, as well as traditional Christmas pieces by Harry Connick Jr. and even Coldplay, to mention a couple,” explained Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell, conductor and director of Choral Activities. "This unique assembly of signature and contemporary composures both embraces and revamps the “traditional” holiday concert."

The concert will celebrate the sound produced between choir and brass which is symbolic of Christmastime. Maxwell explained that the Christmas season calls for a majestic and marshal tone that can only be produced through the use of brass instruments. Maxwell added, "Who wouldn't be satisfied to hear the announcement of Christ’s birth heralded by a bassoon or alto sax?"

Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell has served as director of Choral Activities for Fairfield University since 1980. She has prepared and conducted choruses around world, and extends her commitment to bringing exceptional choral music to singers and audience members throughout Fairfield County. The Glee Club performs a varied repertoire of early, classical, and contemporary music in numerous engagements with other choruses, and with Festival and Symphonic Orchestras.

A Christmas Flourish, Music For Choir and Brass opens on Friday, December 4, at 8 p.m. and continues on Saturday, December 5, at 2 p.m. at the Quick Center for the Arts. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Contact the Quick Center box office for tickets at (203) 254-4010.
