Fairfield University Participates in #JesuitEducated Campaign
Fairfield University has joined the other 27 Jesuit schools in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in a national #JesuitEducated campaign showcasing the value of a Jesuit education during the upcoming visit of Pope Francis to the United States.
Fairfield is participating in a variety of ways via social media, hosting events across campus focused on Pope Francis’ visit this September, as well as through a Campus Ministry sponsored trip to the Papal Mass on Sunday September 27, 2015 in Philadelphia.
The AJCU is based in Washington, D.C. and serves as a facilitator for initiatives focused on Jesuit, Catholic education. The AJCU serves as a liaison between the Jesuit institutions and serves to foster nationwide collaboration. A major aspect of the #JesuitEducated campaign is the social media component, Medium Blog. This blog space is comprised of reflections on lives transformed by Jesuit education. Fairfield is actively contributing a weekly blog post written by a variety of members of the Stag community.
Using Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, Fairfield is utilizing the hashtag, #JesuitEducated, to showcase the variety of ways in which the community lives out the Jesuit ideals. These blog posts, photos, and testimonials of people whose lives have been touched by a Jesuit education are meant to highlight the qualities of Jesuit education, and generate energy in anticipation of the arrival of Pope Francis. To follow the activities of all twenty-eight Jesuit Universities participation in the social media campaign check out the #tagboard located at Fairfield.edu/leaders.
Events on campus include a Catholic Studies and Public Life Co-Sponsored teach-in event entitled Ecology and Catholic Social Teaching: The Pope’s New Encyclical, Tuesday September 22, 2015 at 7:30 pm in the Kelley Center Presentation Room. There will also be an opportunity to watch a live broacast of the pope when he addresses the U.S. Congress — Papal Politics: Pope Francis Speaks to Congress –Live — on Thursday, September 24th from 9:00am – 10:30am in the Lower Level BCC. This event will provide an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to watch the speech together. It will be followed by a facilitated discussion about the speech and its implications for U.S. politics, especially in light of the impending presidential election in 2016. Light breakfast fare will be provided.
